ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

Effective Date: 6/12/2025

1. OUR COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBILITY

Vance Shirts acknowledges the importance of digital accessibility and strives to make our website usable by as many people as possible. While we are working toward better accessibility, we recognize that our current implementation may not meet all accessibility standards.

This statement provides an honest assessment of our current accessibility features and limitations, along with our plans for improvement.

2. CURRENT STATUS

Current Compliance Level: Partial compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level A standards. We are not currently fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards but are working toward that goal.

Our website is a modern React/Next.js application with custom styling and animations that may present accessibility challenges for some users.

3. WHAT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED

Basic Structure

  • Semantic HTML structure (headers, navigation, main content)
  • Descriptive page titles
  • Basic heading hierarchy
  • Consistent navigation structure

Visual Design

  • High contrast design (red, white, black color scheme)
  • Responsive design that works on different screen sizes
  • Text that can be scaled with browser zoom
  • Some images include alt text

Basic Keyboard Navigation

  • Most interactive elements are keyboard accessible
  • Standard tab navigation through links and buttons
  • Focus states on most interactive elements

Forms

  • Form inputs have associated labels
  • Basic error messaging for form validation
  • Required fields are indicated

4. KNOWN LIMITATIONS AND BARRIERS

We acknowledge the following accessibility limitations on our website:

Animation and Motion

  • Extensive use of animations and transitions throughout the site
  • No option to disable or reduce motion
  • May cause issues for users with vestibular disorders or motion sensitivity

Screen Reader Support

  • Limited ARIA labels and descriptions
  • Complex interactive components may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Product image galleries may be difficult to navigate with assistive technology
  • Cart and checkout modals may present challenges for screen reader users

Color and Contrast

  • Some text/background combinations may not meet WCAG contrast ratios
  • Information is sometimes conveyed through color alone
  • Red/green color usage may be problematic for colorblind users

Navigation and Interaction

  • No skip navigation links
  • Complex hover interactions may not be accessible via keyboard
  • Some content requires mouse interaction
  • Mobile touch targets may not meet size recommendations

Technical Limitations

  • Heavy reliance on JavaScript for core functionality

  • Custom fonts may not load properly in all assistive technologies
  • Complex state management may confuse assistive technology

5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Our website integrates with several third-party services:

Payment Processing (Stripe)

Our checkout redirects to Stripe's hosted checkout pages, which have their own accessibility features. We cannot control the accessibility of Stripe's interface.

Product Management (WooCommerce)

Product data comes from WooCommerce via API. Any accessibility issues in product descriptions or metadata depend on how content is entered in the WooCommerce admin.

Hosting and CDN

Our site is hosted on Vercel with images served via CDN. Performance may vary based on geographic location and connection speed.

6. BROWSER COMPATIBILITY

Our website is tested and works best with:

  • Modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge
  • Mobile browsers on iOS Safari and Android Chrome

Older browsers or browsers with JavaScript disabled may not function properly. We have not extensively tested with assistive technology combinations.

7. IMPROVEMENT PLANS

We are committed to improving accessibility and plan to:

  • Add proper ARIA labels and descriptions to interactive components
  • Implement skip navigation links
  • Review and improve color contrast ratios
  • Add options to reduce motion and animations
  • Improve keyboard navigation for complex interactions
  • Test with actual screen readers and assistive technology
  • Conduct accessibility audits with automated tools
